MECUDA Canada in Ontario, the Meta Cultural & Development Association, is celebrating a remarkable milestone: 10 years of promoting cultural heritage, community solidarity and development.

To mark the occasion, the association will host its much-anticipated Grand Uniform Launching and 10th Anniversary Gala on Saturday, November 7, 2026, in Etobicoke, Toronto.

Under the leadership of its President, Ms Vivian Foncham Mbakwa, MECUDA Canada is extending a warm invitation to the entire Cameroonian community, the broader African diaspora, cultural associations, community leaders and friends of Africa to celebrate a decade of unity, cultural pride and togetherness.

The evening promises to be more than a celebration. It will be a powerful expression of identity, belonging and the enduring connection between the Meta people of Cameroon and their community in Canada.

Ten years of preserving culture

For a decade, MECUDA Canada has been a cultural home for members of the Meta community living in Ontario.

Rooted in the rich traditions of Meta land in Cameroon's Momo Division, the association brings together individuals and families who share a commitment to preserving their cultural identity while contributing positively to Canadian society.

Through fellowship, cultural engagement and a commitment to development, MECUDA Canada embodies a community determined to stay connected to its heritage while creating opportunities for future generations.

The 10th anniversary is a moment to reflect on that journey, celebrate the people who helped the association grow, and recommit to the years ahead.

At the forefront of this milestone is Ms Vivian Foncham Mbakwa, President of MECUDA Canada for the 2025–2027 term.

A proud daughter of Meta land in the Momo Division, Ms Mbakwa brings a deep appreciation of cultural heritage and a passionate commitment to community advancement. Her leadership reflects three priorities:

Known for her dedication, grace and community-focused vision, she represents a generation of diaspora leaders determined to keep cultural traditions relevant and meaningful in a changing world.

As MECUDA Canada celebrates its first decade, Ms Mbakwa is championing a message of inclusiveness, unity and renewed community participation — a vision in which cultural heritage is not only a reminder of where people come from, but a foundation for stronger communities and a lasting legacy for future generations.

Everyone is invited

President Mbakwa is inviting Cameroonians from all regions and backgrounds, members of African cultural associations, community organizations and friends of the African diaspora to come together for this landmark celebration.

The gala is not reserved for MECUDA Canada members. It is an opportunity for the wider community to celebrate African culture, strengthen friendships and support the growth of cultural organizations across Ontario. MECUDA Canada welcomes people from every background in a spirit of friendship and togetherness.

The anniversary also recognises the value of collaboration among African diaspora organizations, and the positive role they play in preserving culture and strengthening multicultural communities in Canada.

The grand uniform: identity you can wear

A highlight of the evening will be the official presentation of MECUDA Canada's cultural uniform.

In many Cameroonian communities, traditional uniforms are powerful expressions of unity, belonging, dignity and collective pride. They tell a story of shared identity and of traditions passed down through generations.

For MECUDA Canada, the launch is a visible affirmation of the association's cultural identity as it enters a new decade — and a chance to share the beauty and meaning of Meta traditions with guests from across the African diaspora and the wider Canadian community.

The evening's theme is "Dress to Impress": guests are encouraged to embrace elegance, cultural expression and the spirit of celebration.

Building bridges between Cameroon and Canada

The anniversary also highlights the role diaspora organizations play in connecting communities across continents. For many Cameroonians abroad, cultural associations offer a sense of belonging while keeping meaningful ties with their communities of origin.

Under President Mbakwa's leadership, MECUDA Canada continues to emphasise community empowerment in Canada alongside the aspiration to support development in Meta land — celebrating cultural identity while encouraging initiatives that strengthen communities at home and abroad.

Looking ahead, the association hopes its anniversary will inspire younger generations to embrace their heritage, take part in community life and carry forward the values of unity, service and mutual support.

Ten years of cultural pride. Ten years of unity. Ten years of keeping the Meta spirit alive in Canada.

This November, MECUDA Canada invites everyone to be part of the celebration and help usher in a new decade of cultural preservation, friendship and community development. Come celebrate with MECUDA Canada — and be part of a historic moment.
