A girl who can see the colors in people’s hearts joins a group with two other people.. Naoko Yamada’s fifth feature film.. I loved this film. There was a certain warmth to it – the warmth that Totsuko brought through her true appreciation, the warmth that comes from newfound friendships, the warmth of forgiveness and acceptance, the warmth of spending time with loved ones, away from the distractions of life, and the warmth of making art. I thought about the prayer Totsuko recited: “God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.” Life is hard, and maybe it is. It’s best, like Totsuko, without a spirit that sees colors, and somehow we find the peace, courage, and wisdom within ourselves to get through it.
